Lewis Group is a leading retailer of furniture, home appliances, electronic goods and homewares through its trading brands Lewis, Best Home and Electric, Beares, UFO and Bedzone. The Group’s footprint of 840 stores covers metropolitan and rural areas in South Africa as well as four neighbouring countries.
At present Lewis Group employs over 9000 permanent employees of which 58% are female and 98% of the workforce is black. Lewis Stores, founded in 1934 is South Africa’s largest furniture chain and is synonymous with furniture retailing in the country.
Best Home and Electric was established in 2008, selling home appliances as well as furniture ranges.
Beares, a furniture retailer started in 1930, was acquired in 2014 as the Group diversified into a higher income target market.
UFO, a luxury furniture chain, was acquired in 2018 and marked the Group’s diversification into cash retailing and targeting the higher income market.
Bedzone, established in 2022 specializes predominantly in beds and associated merchandise.
Lewis encourages continuous learning and offer a variety of programmes including sales advisor training, stock management training, as well as other skills training programmes. Lewis also conducts in a number of learnerships that includes both able-bodied and disabled learners.
Besides offering bursaries to full time employees, Lewis also presents a number of leadership programmes for high-performing employees. Lewis is also currently the only retailed that has a Retail Management Programme that is accredited by the QCTO Authority.
